About Vector-Guided Release
A Smarter Way to Relieve Pain and Rebuild the Body
Vector-Guided Release (VGR) is a practitioner-guided system designed to relieve structural dysfunction by working with the body – not against it.
Founded by Tyrone Penning, a passionate manual therapist and educator, VGR takes the guesswork out of musculoskeletal treatment. Instead of forcing the body into alignment, VGR works with it – following the body’s own directional cues to guide precise, lasting release.
This isn’t just technique. It’s an approach rooted in:

I’m Tyrone penning | Acupuncturist & Manual Therapist – founder of Meridian Health and your dedicated practitioner here in Auckland. My journey into health and wellness has been driven by a deep curiosity about how the body works and a passion for helping people overcome pain and limitations to live fuller lives.
My Approach: Integrating Wisdom and Precision
I believe true healing comes from addressing the root cause, not just managing symptoms. My approach integrates the time-tested wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), particularly Acupuncture and Tui Na (Manual Therapy), with a modern, precise understanding of biomechanics and neuromuscular function. Foundational texts like the Dao De Jing continually offer insights that inform this integrated perspective.
This drive for understanding led me to develop Vector-Guided Release (VGR), a specialised manual therapy technique that focuses on identifying specific mechanical restrictions through careful assessment and utilizing gentle, cooperative, patient-guided movements to restore optimal function.
Whether using Acupuncture to balance energy, reduce pain and inflammation, or employing Manual Therapy to address underlying physical patterns, my goal is always to work with your body’s natural capacity for healing in a safe, controlled, and effective manner. I prioritise building a trusting relationship and developing personalised treatment plans tailored to your unique needs and health goals. Central to this is fostering body awareness – understanding how simple habits, like maintaining a balanced posture by standing evenly on both feet or avoiding crossing your legs while sitting, can significantly impact long-term spinal health.
Qualifications & Background
My commitment to providing high-quality care is reflected in my qualifications and ongoing learning:
- ACC Treatment Provider
- Bachelor of Health Science (Acupuncture) – NZ School of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine – NZSATCM
- Graduate Diploma in Tui Na (Manual Therapy) – NZSATCM
- Graduate Diploma in Qi Gong – NZSATCM
- Diploma of Yoga – Wellpark College of Natural Therapies
- Extensive Postgraduate Training: I actively pursue continuing education across diverse areas including advanced acupuncture techniques (e.g., Balance Method), musculoskeletal therapies (e.g., Myofascial Release), internal medicine, nutrition, and traditional practices (e.g., Tai Chi, Qigong).
Clinical Experience
Since beginning practice in 2010, I’ve gained extensive experience in various clinical settings, including integrative physiotherapy and chiropractic clinics, a naturopathic oncology support center, and managing my own successful practice, Meridian Health. I’ve also had the privilege of serving as Head of Clinic Department and Clinic Supervisor at the NZ School of Acupuncture and TCM. This diverse background has enriched my understanding of collaborative care and effective treatment strategies for a wide range of conditions.
Beyond the Clinic
My background also includes studies in Engineering, which fostered the analytical and problem-solving approach I bring to understanding complex biomechanics. I believe in a holistic view of health, incorporating principles of mindful movement, breathwork, and lifestyle balance into my own life. Practices like conscious breathing, regular meditation, and connecting with nature through walks in the bush help me maintain clarity and perspective. And yes, occasionally an invigorating cold water plunge serves as a powerful reset! Staying prepared with healthy food choices is also key to maintaining daily energy and focus. These personal practices reinforce the wellness principles I share with my patients.
